Banyan Trees started as an experiment between Kiran and Arun Ramamurthy, who decided to perform a musical tribute to commemorate their eldest brother’s wedding. Arun, trained in the classical traditions of India on the violin, and Kiran, a guitar player “trained” in rock n’ roll were excited about the results of that musical experiment and began writing original compositions. With the addition of their cousin, Ruchira Kannambille on the piano, and a close friend Avi Shah, an accomplished tabla player, the lineup was complete.
The songs have diverse influences, incorporating elements of the blues, indie, folk, reggae, and rock. The songwriting also makes space for extended instrumental breaks, where the band provides a lush and nuanced canvass for Carnatic explorations. Check out the sound at the link below:

After the performance our jam session will follow. We are focused on encouraging spontaneous collaboration between smaller groups of musicians. Pairs, trios, quartets: join up with other musicians that are present or that you've met at past events and sign up for a slot to play. We only ask that your performance is rooted in or inspired by the tradition of Indian Classical Music.
Thank you for your support!!
