About the Event
International efforts to reduce nuclear risks are in deep turmoil. As we approach the thirtieth anniversary of the Carnegie International Nuclear Policy Conference, rising tensions among nuclear powers, technological developments, and doctrinal innovations are increasing the likelihood of nuclear use. The Iran deal faces serious challenges that could lead to its collapse. Perhaps the only bright spot is the Korean Peninsula, where a spike in threats in 2017 gave way to renewed hopes for peace in 2018. Meanwhile, a global effort to eliminate nuclear weapons—embodied in the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons—is increasing strains between the nuclear haves and have-nots.
We hope you will join over 800 experts and officials from more than forty-five countries and international organizations to debate—and explore solutions for—the most pressing challenges in nuclear nonproliferation, arms control, disarmament, deterrence, energy, and security.
